Christopher Bell earned the weekend’s success by winning both the Xfinity and Cup races on Saturday and Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
It marked the first time this season that a driver won multiple NASCAR National Series races in the same weekend.
The move bumped Bell from third to second in the standings, and this analysis seemed like a good time to take a look at whether these drivers in the standings have ever won a Cup race and another NASCAR National Series race in one weekend, and how many times they’ve won. I’ve pulled double duty this year.
Cup drivers are limited to five races in each Xfinity Series and Truck during the season. They cannot compete in the final eight races (the regular season finale and playoffs) or special bonus races such as the Dash 4 Cash Xfinity and Triple Truck Challenge events.
And one driver of note: Kyle Busch is not in the standings. He has a record 18 race weekends in which he has won a Cup race and an Xfinity or Truck event. Included in that is the fact that he is the only driver to have two tripleheaders on the weekend of all three series, both at Bristol (August 2010 and August 2017).
1. Kyle Larson (Last week: 1)
Larson has won Xfinity and Cup races in one weekend twice in his career: in March 2017 at California Speedway and then in August 2022 at Watkins Glen. Larson won the Xfinity race at Circuit of the Americas earlier this year (his only Xfinity start) but finished 17th in the Cup race. He’ll do double duty again next week when he competes in Xfinity and Cup on the Chicago road course.
2. Christopher Bell (LW: 3)
Last weekend at New Hampshire was the first time Bell has earned a weekend spot, fittingly enough as he is 4-for-4 in his Xfinity starts at the track. It was the second time this year that he ran two races in one weekend, the first time in Las Vegas when he finished fifth in a Tricon truck.

3. Chase Elliott (left: 2)
Elliott has a winning weekend with multiple races: He won the Truck race and the Cup race at Charlotte in May 2020. He had a chance to win the Xfinity and Cup races at Charlotte this year, as he won the Xfinity, but he finished seventh in the Cup. His next scheduled Xfinity race is in August at Darlington.
4. Denny Hamlin (left: 4)
Hamlin has two multi-win weekends. In May 2010, he won the Xfinity and Cup races at Darlington. And it’s no surprise that he did it again in September 2017 at Darlington. Hamlin hasn’t pulled double duty this year, but he expects to try again at Darlington this fall.
5. Tyler Reddick (left: 8)
Reddick hasn’t had a marquee race weekend. He hasn’t pulled double duty this year, but he will this weekend in Nashville when he drives for Sam Hunt Racing.
6. Ryan Blaney (L: 5)
Blaney hasn’t had a multi-win weekend. If Blaney pulls double duty, it will be a strange feeling for him: the last time he did two races in one weekend was 2019, a year in which he ran two Xfinity races.
7. Martin Truex Jr. (LW: 9)
Truex did not have an award-winning race weekend. He’s not a double-duty guy as he’s been competing in an Xfinity race since 2010 and a truck race since 2006 (he won the 2021 truck race on Bristol dirt).
8. William Byron (LW: 6)
Byron won the Truck and Cup races at Martinsville on the same weekend in April 2022. He has had two Xfinity starts this year and has two more scheduled: at Pocono and Watkins Glen.
9. Chris Buescher (left:NR)
Buescher did not undergo testing over the weekend. He’s focused on the Cup: He hasn’t competed in an Xfinity race since he won the championship in 2015 and has never competed in a truck.
10. Josh Berry (LW: NR)
Berry, a Cup rookie looking for his first Cup win, obviously didn’t win. He hasn’t competed in an Xfinity or truck race this year.
